The Formative Years - 0-6

The child development stage from birth to six years old is known as the Formative Years. Throughout this stage the child is “like a sponge” absorbing everything in their environment both consiously and subconsiously. During this developmental time the child will pass through four sub stages:

  • The Absorbent Mind
  • The Development of Movement
  • Human Tendencies
  • Independence

Each person passes through each stage and must learn certain skills to progress. For example, the child must learn to crawl before standing, stand before walking, walk before running. They can not progress to the next stage without learning the prerequisites.
